Central London | Flexible - 4 days or reduced hours if 5 days | term time working | Salary £33,000 - £38,000 (depending on seniority and flexible contract)

This Central London Organisation is looking for a Careers Adviser who will work with the Dean of Careers to offer a unique high quality careers service to students.

You will be responsible for helping students to make informed decisions, develop strategies and career plans, advice students on how to present themselves effectively at interviews and how to cope with the transition from studying to employment, as well as prepare students for postgraduate study.

You will also be responsible for employer outreach and employer liaison activities and be able to offer quality internships and employment prospects to the students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assessing personal characteristics, values, skills and interests and relating these to suitable opportunities
  • Providing information, advice and guidance to the students on CVs, cover letters and interviews and holding mock interviews and application form reviews via one-to-one sessions. While largely providing guidance to current students, to include graduates and postgraduates as and when required
  • Introducing and developing new working relationships with employers to add to the College employer network for internships and employment opportunities, together with maintaining current working relationships with employers
  • Writing careers literature, contributing to action plans and reports as and when requested
  • Working with academic colleagues and other departments in relation to careers, employability and the current labour market, and to promote the employability of students
  • Contribute to and teaching on the careers development programme, LAUNCH, by delivering careers-related presentations
  • Contribute to the programme of workshops featuring external speakers, such as employer evenings
  • Attending College recruitment activities to promote the careers offering, e.g. open days, taster days
  • Liaising with third parties and professional bodies, such as Careers Group and OPP
  • Conducting research related to the careers and employment of graduates and identifying labour market trends
  • General administration with employer and student databases and careers intranet
  • Taking initiative with personal development by attending conferences, keeping up to date with changes to sectors and employment and maintaining up to date and relevant information
  • Managing the Graduate Outcomes survey process
Qualifications and Experience
Professional Skills:
  • Detailed knowledge of some or all of the ‘creative’ industries comprising but not limited to marketing, marketing services, technology, telecoms, media, television, publishing, theatre, heritage, business and consumer information, public policy and analysis, PR, advertising, journalism, computer games, sport and leisure.
  • Sales mentality (to promote the College to employers) and negotiating skills
  • Confidence and excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Patience, empathy and resilience
  • Confidentiality, a non-prejudicial manner, and good team-working, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong advisory capability
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
Start Date: August 2018 – early September 2018 (negotiable)
