Spinning Plates with Laura House

Spinning Plates with Laura House

Last night was far from my usual Wednesday night. I swapped bedtime routines, eating dinner on my lap while catching up on emails and TV simultaneously, for a glamorous evening with twelve inspiring women. We were invited by Jane Knight, founder of Successful Mums, to join her for a photoshoot to promote her new website (coming 2018) and illustrate how her courses can help you on your path to being whatever you want to be. Her motto, ‘This Mum Can’ is something she lives by, whether it’s running a 10KM charity run each month or starting her own business, this woman’s positivity and zest for life is infectious and you leave her company wearing an invisible crown and feeling like you can conquer the world.

Meeting these women reminded me how strong working mums can be. While battling the guilt of leaving the kids V leaving the office, we manage to achieve so much, often spinning a million plates at a time. We become juggling experts and often beat ourselves up, but Jane has an ability to cut through this and show you why every little thing you do as a mother, sets you up for any career you choose. I have worked in the same company for 16 years, often doubting my ability after maternity leave and days off for childcare, but the support and understanding my company (The Acorn Group) offer me, and my female colleagues is second to none. My Main Board have a clear vision, to organically grow a mixed gender group of Managers and Directors. They are active in recruiting and developing the careers of the women, who perhaps in other organisations could be written off as ‘Mums’. A word which some use as an insult, but one I say with pride, especially now I am part of the ‘Successful Mums’ family.

If you’re a mum wanting to return to work, or like me, just needed some guidance and confidence building, then Jane should be your first call. - Laura House

The Acorn Group will be joining forces with Successful Mums in the future to advertise any flexible working roles we may have, and also discuss work experience for Mums wanting to return to work but need to get their feet back under a desk to remind them how good they are.
