Jane Knight's Monthly Column - May 2018

What more could a mum ask? What more could a mum ask?

It’s May and another busy month at Successful Mums. We’re welcoming two new groups of Back to Work mums through our doors in Bromley and, for the first time, Croydon. We’re talking to new companies about joining our growing network of flexible, family-friendly local employers. And our popular Business Start-up course is returning this month too.

There’s never a dull moment when you run your own business but no matter how crazy the busy times feel and how scary the quieter times can be, being your own boss is always a huge thrill.

I love catching up with our Business Start-up “grads” a few months down the line to hear all about the exciting steps they’ve taken to make their business dreams a reality and achieve their own personal success. And although almost everyone talks about the hard work they’re putting in – and how it might be some time until they get their work-life balance just right! – it’s great to hear how rewarding they find working for themselves.

One of the things that crops up time and again is how much our budding business women love inspiring their children and there are two great examples on our website this week. In her success story, stylist Sarah reveals that her young daughter is already following in her footsteps and has set up her own company – complete with homemade business cards! Garden designer Anna, meanwhile, reflects on what it means to her to be able to show her children the importance of doing a job you love.

What more could a mum ask? It’s fantastic to think that some of the confidence, motivation, passion and energy our Successful Mums take away from our courses is filtering down to the next generation. I’ve no doubt I’ll be hearing lots more from our growing team of Successful Kids in the future!

One of the things that drives me personally is wanting Daniel and Anna to see Mummy trying new experiences, turning ideas into reality and taking small steps of progress each day. Like many of the women I support, I hope that through my actions, my children can see that life is not about being perfect, it’s about having fun, being kind and being the best version of you. Daniel joined me for my monthly charity running event this month. Whilst I did the hottest (as in the weather!) 10k ever, he asked to do the 2k children’s run. He ran most of the way and he tried his best. What more could a mum ask?

Whatever you want your children to see you doing, if we can help you on your journey, do get in touch. The good news is that if you want to unleash your entrepreneurial spirit like Sarah and Anna, there are still a few spaces left on our Business Start-up course starting on 17 May. Click here to find out more and book your place today.

To all our Successful Mums and Successful Kids: have a happy and enterprising May!
