Start-up superstars share their success

Start-up superstars share their success One of the things we love most about our community of Successful Mums is their passion for supporting one another. We do a little dance every time we hear about their Facebook networking, Whatsapp brainstorming and fizz-fuelled focus grouping (yes it’s a thing!). And we’re thrilled when our course grads come back to share their experiences and expertise with other women setting out on their own journeys.

One of the things we love most about our community of Successful Mums is their passion for supporting one another. We do a little dance every time we hear about their Facebook networking, Whatsapp brainstorming and fizz-fuelled focus grouping (yes it’s a thing!). And we’re thrilled when our course grads come back to share their experiences and expertise with other women setting out on their own journeys.

Last week, we welcomed back two Successful Mums – Angie Stephens and Niki Fisher – to give our current Business Start-up group a masterclass in their specialist areas.

Angie set up her thriving bookkeeping and accountancy business, Collaborio, after attending our Back to Work course. In a talk packed with practical advice on everything from self-assessment to accounting software, she shared her top tips for getting your business into good financial habits.

Social media marketing expert Niki took her business, FisherBerry Social Media, to the next level with the help of our Start-up course. She gave the group the inside track on using social media to give their businesses a head start and a handy guide to creating the perfect post.

Both Angie and Niki were delighted to be back at Successful Mums to help other women take their first steps in business.

“I finished the Back to Work course in February last year and I never would have thought I’d be back this year, talking to more Successful Mums about what I’ve done,” said Angie, who loved sharing her expertise with our budding businesswomen.

“For me, having my own business was a pipe dream... until I thought I’d better stop talking about it and do something about it! So it’s great to be here and to be sharing what I’ve learned – and what I’m still learning – along the way.”

“It’s meant a lot to me to come back here, as I’m now doing everything I learnt at Successful Mums on a daily basis,” she said. “Probably the biggest thing that’s come from it is that I can now stand in front of a group of people and have the confidence to tell them about my business and know that it really does have value.”

New Start-up mum Valentina said that hearing from our superstar grads had given the group a real boost.

“They’re people who’ve actually been through the course and have made it happen for themselves, which is brilliant. They’ve also given us great advice about the financial side of things and the world of social media, so I now know where to start and where to go if I need help. I’m not navigating it all on my own.”

Harriet joined the course to take the next steps with her photography business and relished the opportunity to pick our experts’ brains.

“We’ve been able to get down to the real ‘nitty-gritty’ and ask lots of questions, which is so useful,” she said. “We’d never have been able to ask those questions at the start of the course. But as we’ve gone through – with Derryn’s help and by talking to each other – we’ve got that clarity and are now in a position where we know the right questions to ask to help us move our businesses forwards.”

Start-up trainer Derryn Morton was delighted to see the Successful Mums network in action:

“It’s lovely seeing these women working together and feeding off each other’s experiences, ideas and energy. It says something very important, I think, about what’s going on here and the camaraderie they have. Any time you bring together a group of women who are starting their own businesses, you’ve automatically got a focus group! It’s wonderful to see.”
