September isn’t just for the kids, it’s a new start for YOU too

September often brings a sense of fresh beginnings. New uniforms, new teachers, new pencil cases – everything feels like a reset for children. But what about you? When was the last time you gave yourself permission to hit ‘refresh‘?
For many mums, the thought of returning to work after a break can feel daunting. The 9–5 grind, the juggle with childcare or a lack of confidence can all feel like barriers. But here’s the good news, it doesn’t have to be a 9–5 job and it doesn’t have to feel daunting either.
At Successful Mums, we’ve designed flexible, supportive courses created especially for mums who want to explore their career options, return to work or even start something brand new. Our training is all about helping you swap can’t for can, overcoming those fears and rediscovering your potential.
What our courses can give you
- Confidence to take that next step
- A clear sense of direction and the skills to move forward
- Practical career advice, CV support and real employer connections
- A community of like-minded women who understand your journey
It’s not about going back to where you left off, it’s about moving forward into something that fits who you are now.
Tips for your Back-to-Work Journey
While you’re thinking about your next step, here are a few practical ways to get started:
1. Recognise your ‘mum skills‘
Parenting gives you an incredible toolkit; time management, organisation, negotiation, conflict resolution. These are in-demand skills that employers value, so don’t leave them off your CV.
2. Spread the word
Tell friends, family and your network that you’re looking for opportunities. Many jobs are filled through connections, you never know who might know someone looking for your skills.
3. Practice your pitch
Imagine you bump into someone influential at a party – how would you describe yourself and your ideal role in just a few sentences? Having this ready builds confidence and makes you stand out.
4. Flip the script
You don’t have to go back to what you did before. There are so many new career paths available, many with flexible or term-time hours – that might be a better fit for your life now.
5. Take small steps and stay positive
Returning to work doesn’t have to happen overnight. Break it into manageable steps and celebrate each milestone along the way.
And most importantly, remember you haven’t had a ‘career break’. You’ve been on a sabbatical doing the most challenging, multi-skilled and valuable role of all – raising a family.
