We had a fantastic turnout this week for our first free Business Start-Up and Find A Job You Love Taster sessions of the new year.

There was a real buzz in the room as more than 70 mums (and some dads) came together to beat the January blues and kick-start their 2018 career adventures in two lively workshops, hosted by Bromley Council.

Also joining us was Kate Lymer, a local councillor, parent of two young children and the first woman to be appointed to Bromley Council’s Executive Committee (hats off!), who is a great friend and supporter of Successful Mums.

Having a career break can lead to some women losing their confidence and direction. The work Successful Mums does, providing career advice, building confidence and local connections, is a much-needed service not only for these mums but also for Bromley businesses who want to tap into the skills these women have to offer” – Kate Lymer, local councillor

Having spent 10 years working locally in recruitment, Kate knows a thing or two about what employers are looking for. She opened our Find a Job You Love session with a story from her own experience that captured perfectly how the skills you develop as a parent can be transferred successfully to the workplace – whether you’ve been away for 18 months or 18 years.

Successful Mums founder Jane Knight then presided over a fun and eye-opening workshop, which began with our audience of mums compiling a CV-busting list of their own transferable parenting skills.

At the end of the 90 minutes, they walked away armed with great tips for updating their CVs, keeping focused on their job search, changing careers and tracking down all those family-friendly, flexible jobs.

Fun, friendly and gave my confidence a boost” – Clare Kemp

Our Business Start-Up parents, meanwhile, were offered guidance, tools and confidence tips to help turn their budding ideas into reality. At the end of the session, some keen businesswomen were even spotted putting what they’d heard into practice, making the most of the networking opportunities in the room!

If you missed the chance to join us this time round, we have more free Taster sessions coming up in February, March and April.

These include our very first workshop in Croydon, hosted by Ikea, along with more in Bromley and an evening session at Hayes School. We also have new dates for our Back to Work or Business Start-up courses, which are fully funded for those who fit the eligibility criteria. Register yourself a place HERE today and banish those January blues for good!
