In July, more than 100 mums joined us at BOXPARK Croydon for our latest Find a Job You Love event. On the hottest day of the year, mums came together to connect with employers, explore flexible opportunities and feel inspired about the next step in their careers.

The energy in the room was electric, from motivational talks and employer insights to honest success stories from mums who have been exactly where many of our attendees are today.

Here are just three powerful stories from women who left the event feeling confident, inspired and ready for what’s next…

Tasmyn Gibson

I attended the Successful Mums ‘Find a Job You Love’ event at BOXPARK in Croydon. It came at just the right time for me, as I’m exploring flexible roles, especially in education and it really helped keep me motivated and moving forward

I have attended previous events held by Successful Mums, which have always been very welcoming and informative, leaving me feeling inspired, motivated and positive. They also provide an amazing opportunity to network and meet with people in a similar situation, to share stories, advice and ideas regarding future careers.

This event was no exception. There was a great selection of speakers including local employers with flexible roles, previous learners sharing their inspiring job success stories and a motivational introduction from Jane Knight. Jane highlighted the many and varied transferable skills we have as parents, provided helpful CV advice and tips on how to create a ‘personal pitch’.

I enjoyed the opportunity to network, it is so valuable and can often spark new ideas. I had some great chats with people who’d worked in further education for years, which gave me a better understanding of the roles and career paths available. I left feeling positive, inspired and with clear next steps for my career and I’m already looking forward to the next event!

I heard about the event through a friend and was pleasantly surprised to find something just for mums. It’s not often you come across employers and organisations who truly understand the challenges we face with childcare and busy schedules. What stood out for me was how Successful Mums recognised the need for flexible work, like term-time roles and created such a supportive, non-judgemental space.

As a single mum of four, it felt refreshing to be in an environment where I was heard and understood. Being around other women also made me feel safe and comfortable enough to get involved. I loved that the event was held during school hours too, it meant I could take part and still make the school run. I left feeling like I’d spoken to people who could genuinely help me move forward with work and training, despite my tricky schedule.

Jae Easter

After five years as a School Administrator, I stepped away from work due to personal circumstances, a decision that left me feeling insecure for many reasons, not least because of my age. Being at home all the time made me feel a bit lost, like I’d forgotten who I was outside of parenting. My son had started primary school, I was no longer actively parenting, I wasn’t working, I was just at home.

Then I found Successful Mums. I’ve done a couple of their courses, which really helped rebuild my confidence and gave me some new valuable skills.

I went along to the ‘Find a Job You Love’ event at BOXPARK Croydon to meet other mums in similar situations, hear from local employers and figure out what I want from a future job. And of course, to hear Jane speak, she’s so passionate and inspiring.

The event made me realise working and being a part of a team is not just about financial gain for me. It’s about purpose, connection and contribution. That’s what makes me tick. I thrive on being part of a team, making a difference and having fun along the way. I had lost sight of that while at home but this event brought it back into focus.

I left with a notebook full of ideas and actions and one of the first things I did was start volunteering at my son’s school library once a week. It’s been so rewarding and reminded me how much I enjoy being part of a team and contributing.

Finding term-time jobs is still tricky but the event gave me the confidence and drive to network and explore opportunities I wouldn’t have thought about before. I’m really excited to see where it takes me.
