We know that many mums face real challenges, what they might perceive as outdated skills, lack of childcare, low confidence and limited networks. Our flagship Back to Work and Confidence course is designed to overcome these barriers by offering practical support in CV writing, digital skills and sector-specific opportunities.
We help mums explore what they can do, not what they can’t. The result? Life-changing opportunities that not only improve their lives but positively impact their families and communities too.
The Numbers Behind the Mission
Despite London’s wealth of opportunities, many women from disadvantaged backgrounds are still held back. Research from the Mayor’s Fund for London shows that women from lower-income households in professional roles earn £10,660 less per year than those from higher-income families. That gap is wider in London than anywhere else in the UK.
At Successful Mums:
- 35% of women securing work after our courses lived in disadvantaged areas
- 31% were single parents
- 49% were from ethnic minority backgrounds
- 500+ learners completed our courses last year
- 97% achievement rate
- 40% moved into work training or volunteering
Among them are domestic abuse survivors, mums with mental health challenges and ex-offenders, each looking for a fresh start.
Creating Awareness of What’s Possible
A big part of what we do is open eyes to new possibilities. Many women simply aren’t aware of the roles available or don’t believe they’re qualified enough. We highlight opportunities in hidden job markets and flexible roles in sectors like:

- Teaching in Employment and Skills
- Working in Schools
- SEN Support
- Digital and AI
We help women see the value in the skills they’ve gained through parenting, volunteering and life experience, skills that employers want and need.
Confidence is the Golden Thread
We often hear mums say, “People like me don’t do those jobs.” That’s where our confidence-building sessions make all the difference. With mindset coaching, practical tools and peer support, women begin to stand taller, speak up and go for the roles they once thought were out of reach. When a woman’s confidence grows, so does her family’s future.

Maya – From Self-Doubt to School Support
Maya didn’t think she could work in a school. But after completing our Working in Schools programme, she discovered how valuable her life experience was. She’s now in a fulfilling school role and a proud role model to her children.
Sarah – Rebuilding Confidence After a Career Break
After taking time out to raise her family, Sarah felt unsure about returning to work. Our course helped her refresh her skills and build her confidence. She now works part-time in admin with a clear plan for her future.
Aisha – From Passion to Enterprise
Aisha loved baking but didn’t know how to make it a business. After joining our Enterprise course, she gained confidence, support and practical know-how. She now runs a thriving home bakery, supporting her family and community.

Redundancy during the pandemic knocked Emma’s confidence. She upskilled with our Digital Skills course and now works remotely in customer service – a flexible job that fits around her family.
