BACK TO WORK: Schools and Colleges
Our Back to Work: Schools and Colleges course is a fully funded, eight week programme to support you to start a rewarding new career in a classroom or educational setting.
Building on the success of our flagship Back to Work and Confidence course, this is focussed on helping you regain your confidence and go back to work in an educational setting with extra content on specialist topics included.
This course won’t just help you become work-ready, you’ll meet family friendly employers as part of the programme, learn more about this rewarding industry, and, where possible, gain valuable work experience along the way. You will develop your communication and digital skills, and gain a Level 2 qualification. No previous experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a commitment to complete the programme.
Discover the variety of family-friendly, part-time and term-time roles possible in education. From admin and teaching assistants to pastoral mentoring, SEND support, digital learning, family liaison roles, business management, HR management, and even routes into teaching.

Studying for success on this course
- 8 week course delivered term time
- Online: 2 hour weekly webinar during term time. Starting at 10am on a set regular day of the week, but never on a Friday. Your specific day will be confirmed when you sign up.
Or: When this course is offered as Face-to-Face, rather than a weekly webinar online, your interactive session will be face-to-face, 10-1pm, usually held in Bromley. - 15-20 hours of self-guided study per week, with weekly assignments and weekly challenges

POSSIBLE CAREER PATHS
There are many hidden jobs in educational settings. This course is suitable for a wide variety of roles and will help you and your application stand out.
Possible roles include – but are not limited to – invigilators, teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, office staff and many, many more.
This course is also a great starting point for more specialised roles in education and can be followed by our Working in Further Education, Working as a Coach or Mentor, or Working in SEND courses. These cover a wide range of roles too.

Equipment for success
To study, you’ll need a laptop or computer. Your webinar will take place on Zoom and your learning and assignments will use the educational platform “Equal”. This doesn’t work well on a phone or an iPad, so a laptop or computer is best.
If you receive benefits and are registered with a Work Coach at a Job Centre, they’ll be able to put in a request to help with your access to a laptop. It’s best to do this as soon as possible before you start your course.
You’ll need access to Zoom – a free account is absolutely fine. All you need is an email address to get started.
Successful outcomes
When you complete this course you will gain a recognised qualification in education for your CV: Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health – full of the skills you’ll need to start working in the education sector.
At the end of your course, we’ll make sure you have at least one of the following successful outcomes:
- A job
- Are supported in your job search
- Can progress to another suitable course – with us or another provider
- Or are signposted according to your new career path

Pre-requisites
This is not a repeat of school and there are no set requirements. The nature of what we do for parents means it may have been some time since you did any learning, or you may think you don’t have any qualifications at all.
We run a very basic appraisal with you, designed to help us know which of our courses will work the best for you. It may be best for you to do more than one course with us to help you on your career path. And for some of our courses that help you gain level 3 qualifications, it may be better for you to complete one of our level 2 qualifications first.
We offer several progression pathways to help you get to where you want to be. We’ve helped over 10,000 mums back to work or start a business and we can help you too.
Additional support needs
There is space on your application to tell us about any additional support you may need. We’re happy to support learners and there are many things we can do to achieve this. It will depend on each learner’s circumstances and we would prefer to discuss with you as part of your onboarding process.
