Alina reaches new heights with Successful Mums
When Alina and her family made a ‘now or never’ move from Bucharest to London, she left behind a burgeoning career in a company she loved. Two years later and returning to work in a new country, she felt like she had a mountain to climb. Here, Alina explains how Successful Mums helped her get back on track.

“I worked as a project manager for an online market research company in Bucharest. The company is one of the top five in the world and well known in the market, which gave me a sense of security and helped me learn a lot. There was a nice team there; most of us started at the same time and we kind of grew up together.
When my husband was offered a job in London, we gave it a lot of thought and decided to give it a go. It was a ‘now or never’ kind of move. Our son was two and a half at the time and, as he was not at school, a big change was manageable. Once in London, I stayed with him for the first two years to make the transition as smooth as possible.
It felt quite scary looking for work in a new country after a two-year break. I didn’t even have the courage to write my CV, let alone apply for a job. I felt as if I’d forgotten everything in those years and my constant worry was that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the requirements.
“Everyone there had their own stories but, at the end of the day, we were all women who at some point had to give more time to our families – and that is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of..”

I discovered I wasn’t the only one going through that when I joined the Back to Work course. Everyone there had their own stories but, at the end of the day, we were all women who at some point had to give more time to our families – and that is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of.
Georgina (my tutor) was very professional and with a good eye for detail. Even though my CV was good, she knew how to help me fine-tune it and make it stand out.
I’m now working as a project manager again and it’s a similar position to my previous one. I get to use a lot of my knowledge and past experience, which gives me the confidence that I can do more and better. I also love my independence and having my day organised again!
To other mums thinking of enrolling, I would say: go for it! Even if you decide you want to wait before going back to work (though I doubt you will!), the course is a breath of fresh air and encouragement”.
Whether you’ve been away from the workplace for two years or 10 years, Successful Mums can offer you encouragement, training and practical help finding a job you love. Book your place on one of our fully funded Back to Work courses today.
