Marie-Emma Part-time Marketing Success
Successful Mum graduate, Marie-Emma tells us her story…

What is your Job Role?
My role is Marketing Assistant. I carry out a range of marketing duties including designing promotions, engaging with new customers and attending networking events.
What is the name of your employer and what do they do?
Baxter & Co. is an accountancy and tax practice based in Orpington. The firm helps clients, both business and personal, make sense of numbers.
How did you hear about the role?
I had previously attended one of Jane’s workshops which gave me hope and confidence that there were local part-time jobs to fit in around my family. The penny dropped at that workshop, I realised I actually have more skills to offer an employer than before I had my children. I then saw the advert on the Successful Mums Job Board.
Why does Baxter & Co embrace flexible and part-time working?
They recognise that there is an opportunity to employ highly skilled mums who may have had a career break to raise their children. Many customers work flexibly too, so it is a perfect fit.
What are the top 3 benefits to the employer?
- Flexibility: I’m able to be flexible, including swapping some of my day hours for networking in the evening. When my child was poorly once, I was able to work from home, so deadlines were still met.
- Mature attitude: Someone returning to work after a break, will often bring with them a more mature attitude to work and is likely to be more reliable. The experience they have gained from previous employment, even if unrelated to their current position, and voluntary work, can provide a new insight that helps them in their new position.
- New approach: A mum returning to work after a break will have faced the challenges of bringing up young children which helps to build resilience. Being a parent also helps you to become more open to new ideas, different ways to approach issues and a willingness to embrace change, which is essential for success in the modern workplace.
How did Successful Mums help you?

What 3 tips do you have for other Mums looking for part-time or flexible work?
Take the time to create a great up-to-date CV.
Write letters or emails for each application, tailored specifically for the job. This gives the employer a better idea of who you are and what you have to offer.

What work-life balance tips do you have as a working Mum?
I keep a list of things to do on my mobile phone which I work on daily.
Any school requests such as fancy dress days need to be acted on immediately. I don’t have time to make an outfit but can find one on the internet!
Also, look after yourself. If you are well then you can support your family.
What does personal success mean to you?
If my children are happy, healthy and thriving at school I feel successful. In addition to this, if I can re-build my career to give my children a better future, I would consider myself a success.
