Its amazing how many skills you have as a Mum that employers are looking for. Believe in yourself!
Not only did we help Marie with her confidence but we also helped her to secure a local part-time role after completing our Back to Work course during lockdown.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.

“I have 3 children, 13, 10 & 5. Prior to maternity leave, I had a successful career within Coutts Bank as a Team Manager of an Outwards Payment Team, managing 30 members of staff.
Due to the long hours, no flexibility for part-time hours and a lack of childcare, I decided to take voluntary redundancy. The job certainly wasn’t compatible with a baby.
I have had various seasonal jobs over the years to keep me busy and I finally went back to work in October 2017 for Swanley Town Council but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I was furloughed in March 2020 and then made redundant in October.”
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE SUCCESSFUL MUMS COURSE?
“A friend of mine knew Jane Knight and she suggested I get in touch to find out how the courses could help me. I was feeling a bit down about the future, my skills and also I was really bored having been stuck at home for so long.”
“With my trainer, Georgina’s help, I started to believe in myself. I applied for jobs that I would have previously thought were out of my reach.”
Marie
What was your biggest challenge when joining the course?
“Meeting new people and having to speak on Zoom in front of them and also balancing my children’s needs with the extra work from the course.”
What was your biggest take away from the course?
“A huge sense of achievement that I passed, some brilliant new skills and the friendships I have made with the other mums. With my trainer, Georgina’s help, I started to believe in myself. I applied for jobs that I would have previously thought were out of my reach.”
How would you explain the training to others?
“It will be hard work at times but once you have finished the course you will have an overwhelming sense of achievement. The weekly webinars allow you to meet all the mums and working within your sub-teams will be the biggest help, as you will form close friendships, help one another and boost each other’s confidence to keep going. I have felt so supported the whole way through, my amazing trainer has helped at all times of day if I was stuck. I actually feel really sad that I have come to the end and it’s time to say goodbye to Georgina and the other mums.”
What is your top tip to mums thinking about going back to work?
“If you see a job that you know you would love, go for it even if you think you don’t have the skills. It’s amazing how many skills you have as a mum that employers are looking for. Believe in yourself!
What did you achieve from the course /doing now?
My main achievement is my confidence, I actually believe in myself now and I know that being a mum doesn’t mean it should stop me from achieving my goals.
I also feel far more confident with my digital skills, as they were a little rusty.
I have recently started a flexible, part-time job with The Shaw Trust as an Administrator that I really love.
