Despite the national lockdown, we helped this Mum find a local part-time job.

“My name is Rachel, I’m a mum of one and found myself redundant from my role of over five years due to the pandemic.

I originally worked in the music industry for 17 years, predominantly in PR, until I had  my daughter 7 years ago. After my maternity leave,  I didn’t return to my old role for a number of reasons but managed to secure myself a local part-time job with a company that arranged homestay accommodation in South East London for international students (this role was administration and HR based). Due to the pandemic, business disappeared, with our team eventually being made redundant in July after initially being furloughed earlier in the year. ”

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE SUCCESSFUL MUMS COURSE?

“Having not been working since March due to being furloughed,  I wanted to brush up on my skills and meet like-minded people at a challenging time. I also welcomed advice and support on my CV and interview technique. Having fortunately been employed for some time I felt out of touch on the expectation for job applications, especially in the current climate.”

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGING WHEN JOINING THE COURSE?

“Amidst the pandemic, it was probably the adjustment to the new normal. I had been in one company for a long time and wasn’t sure my knowledge and experience were transferable at that point due to lacking in confidence.”

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST TAKE AWAY FROM THE COURSE?

“Reassurance that I knew more than I thought whilst also expanding my knowledge. Meeting like-minded people in exactly the same position with the same concerns and worries was also welcomed. All in all, it was a great confidence boost! ”

“I felt prepped for my interview and had a new found confidence!”

How would you explain the training to others?

“A real confidence boost, as I say, which really helps with mindset. Especially in such uncertain times. It’s also all delivered very well. ”

What is your top tip to mums thinking about going back to work?

“Keep going. It’s tough at the moment and it’s a real recruiters market. I would recommend manually checking job sites and not just rely on alerts too as some jobs slip through the filters on alerts alone.

Also if you see a job you like,  go for it. In the current climate, many roles close before the closing date stated.”

What did you achieve from the course/doing now?

“I GOT A JOB! I felt prepped for the interview and had a newfound confidence. I have just started an admin role in a local primary school which, whilst being full time is mainly term time only so it works well around my daughter. ”
