At Successful Mums, we believe in supporting women to help them rediscover their confidence, develop their skills and take steps toward fulfilling careers. Corleen’s journey is a perfect example of this transformation. Coming from a background in administrative roles while balancing family responsibilities, she found herself at a crossroads, unsure of her next steps. With the support of Successful Mums, she embraced a learning opportunity, found her confidence and opened doors to new possibilities.

A story of confidence, growth and new opportunities
For the past decade, Corleen had been working in various administrative roles, including positions as a PA and Business Support Officer, while also caring for a family member. Despite her experience, Corleen felt her IT skills had become rusty and needed refreshing. She struggled with motivation and confidence, feeling like she was at a crossroads in her career.
When the opportunity to join Successful Mums arose through her Job Coach at Bromley Job Centre, Corleen embraced it as part of what she called her “season of learning.” Determined to develop herself, she enroled in the Back to Work and Confidence Course, hoping to refresh her skills and, more importantly, regain her self-assurance.
From the very beginning, Corleen threw herself into the experience. She actively participated in group discussions, completed all her coursework and supported her fellow learners. The course not only reinforced her technical skills but also helped her realise her own strengths, particularly her leadership abilities. The requirement to work in small groups provided her with valuable teamwork experience and through reflection in the webinars, she began to recognise her worth and potential.
One of Corleen’s biggest challenges was overcoming her self-doubt, especially when it came to numeracy. Recognising this, Successful Mums referred her to the Numeracy Skills for the Workplace sessions in collaboration with Capital City College. Despite finding certain topics challenging, she embraced them with determination and came away feeling more confident, saying, “I can confidently state, I understood the formulas, which I can take away and use in my personal life and in the workplace.”
As a result of the support provided by Successful Mums, Corleen’s confidence and self-awareness improved significantly. She developed a love for learning and is now more confident in her numeracy skills. She described her experience as “empowering,” learning that she is stronger than she had ever given herself credit for. The supportive environment of the course, her tutor’s guidance and the encouragement from her peers allowed her to ask for help without fear of judgment.
Inspired by her journey, Corleen has now enroled on our Wellbeing course to continue developing herself and maintain a healthy work-life balance. She is now eager to put her newfound confidence and skills to use, ready for new opportunities.
Reflecting on her experience, Corleen would highly recommend Successful Mums to others, even encouraging a close friend to give it another go.
If you’re at a crossroads like Corleen was, wondering whether you have what it takes to step forward – take her advice, “believe in yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for help and know that you are stronger than you think”.
