Mum of three, Danielle reached out to Successful Mums after a two-decade career break, bringing up a family overseas.

I contacted Successful Mums at the end of last year after my third child started university. Having been out of the workforce for over 20 years, I had no idea where to start or even what I wanted to do. The team at Successful Mums immediately rallied around to help me. And help me they did!
I was assigned Dee, who is an incredible mentor and coach. We met on a zoom call and talked about my ideas and goals. Dee was quickly able to pick out my strengths and skills and reassure me that I had something of value to offer. We discussed strategies and we targeted organisations that would appreciate my skills.
Successful Mums was right beside me throughout the whole process. Helping me with my CV and cover letter; guiding me with interview preparation and how to answer the tricky interview questions about my career break; practising mock interviews; honing my presentation skills; plus brainstorming questions to ask at the interview.
“I felt incredibly supported. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that if it hadn’t been for Dee and the team at Successful Mums I would still be wondering how I could get back into the workforce after such a long absence.“

With Dee’s support, things moved very quickly. Together we rushed to collate all of my experiences, Dee reminding me that although I hadn’t been in permanent paid work the freelancing and volunteer work I had done was significant, important and relevant. I felt incredibly supported. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that if it hadn’t been for Dee and the team at Successful Mums I would still be wondering how I could get back into the workforce after such a long absence and capitalise on my varied experiences over the past 20 years.
Quite to my astonishment, I was offered a job after my first interview. The job is perfect for me. I am using the skills developed from my past work experiences but also from my life experiences. I am learning new things and growing. I can see that my contribution is recognised and valued.
My new job is totally in line with what Dee and I set out to achieve when we had our initial discussions taking into account my goals, strengths and skills, and it all happened in less than four weeks! The team at Successful Mums are empathic and kind, but they are also incredibly knowledgeable and seem to have magic skills in making people believe in themselves. I couldn’t have done it without them and actually it was a great experience. Dee regularly checks in with me to see how I am progressing in my new role. I think this is so important. Going back to paid employment after a big break was a bit daunting. I really appreciate the ongoing support, interest and care of Dee and Successful Mums.
