Vanessa wanted a new job that would fit in around her family, with a little help from Successful Mums, she has found what she was looking for, along with a huge confidence boost!
I had been a Social Worker for over 9 years and had a lot of varied roles before this in social care or admin.
My previous role meant very long hours and a lot of stress which leaked into my home life.
I wanted to find something that fitted around my children, stretched me and built on my previous experience. I had struggled to find something that truly fitted all of this. I had also lost a great deal of confidence as my previous role had become so stressful.
I had seen posts on Facebook from Successful Mums in the past but when I saw the Back to Work and Digital Skills course advertised, I knew this was what I needed!
Getting back to work can feel so overwhelming and at times anxiety-provoking. But there are lots of us in the same boat, especially at the moment. It was great to meet like-minded women on this course. I really appreciated talking to others who were in such similar situations. It helped me feel less alone. Talking my priorities through with others really helped me focus on what mattered to me now.
We were given a personal branding questionnaire as a task, initially, I was uncomfortable asking friends and family to complete but this was the first step in challenging my view of myself. I was so flattered by the responses, and this really helped reshape how I viewed myself and what I could offer.
“It was great to have the personalised support for my CV, it helped me condense 4 very lengthy pages to feel much more concise and I’ve used the feedback to make it feel more personal.“
The course helped me remember my strengths and I realised so many of my skills from being a parent are transferrable and just what employers are looking for.
It was great to have the personalised support for my CV, it helped me condense 4 very lengthy pages to feel much more concise and I’ve used the feedback to make it feel more personal. I appreciated the mock interview it gave us a chance to use the advice and tips we had been given.
Attending a recent interview, I felt much better equipped for it but I also knew what I need to improve on.
The course was a success as I have now found a role that fits perfectly around the children and is linked to my background, working for a local charity. It’s a small step, just 10 hours but it’s been a huge confidence boost.
