Luxury Facials make a Beautiful Business

Successful Mum client Emma Bennett tells us her story…

Successful Mum Grad and Ambassador, Emma

What is the name of your business and what does it do?

Advanced Facialist. We provide luxury problem-solving facials (anti-ageing, acne, pigmentation for men and women and teenagers).

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was working for long hours and building someone else’s business up and not getting any credit for it. I had my own dreams I wanted to pursue along with wanting to work flexibly to be with my children.

How did Successful Mums help you?

We were a room full of like-minded women that all had ideas but just didn’t know if they were any good or how we could make them become a reality. Week by week Jane helped us focus and stick to a framework along with building confidence in ourselves and our product or service. Jane set small steps each week that were achievable and we felt motivated to do.

What challenges did you have when starting a business?

Money! Big ideas with a small budget. I wrote a list of my top 5 things I REALLY needed. I then sold lots of personal belongings on eBay to help raise cash. I also had to embrace social media and build my online profile.

What does personal success mean to you?

Freedom of choice. I plan my hours around what’s needed of me as a mum. If I want to take a week off then I do. If it’s a sunny day then I take a long lunch break. I’m in complete control of the direction I want my business, my ideas, my energy and my success.

What is the most challenging thing about working for yourself?

Keeping motivated. Having no one to answer to can make you drift and procrastinate. I still work with Jane for 1 to 1 business coaching to help stay focused.

What is the most rewarding thing about working for yourself?

Earning my own money. It’s so easy for people to get stuck in a job they hate just because they pick up a paycheque once a month. I appreciate money more now because I know I made it happen.

What top tip do you have for other Mums thinking of starting a business?

Just go for it. You don’t have to be the next Karen Brady or Jacqueline Gold. Find your own vision of personal success and take it one step at a time. And don’t feel guilty. You had goals, dreams and aspirations before you became a mum.

What work-life balance tip do you have?

Make plans to do things and set them in the diary. They give you something to look forward to, plus it makes you do something enjoyable as a family. I try to have set days I work; I cram so much into those days because I know I need time off to be with the children.
